So About This Blogging Thing…

Ok, So we kind of suck at this whole blogging thing… Here we are about eight months after we first started this and we’ve written on here a total of three times. We’re going to blogger’s hell. I’ll try to get you caught up as much as possible, but given my fingers probably aren’t able to type more than 10,000 words in one sitting it’s going to be a bit difficult to fill you all in on the entire last eight months of our lives. Here goes nothing…(As in the shortest, simplest and lamest catch up story of all time)

In regards to the last bit you read about our lives, Greg Oden is sooo last year, in fact he came to our house warming party a couple weekends ago, no big deal. We roll with the big shots. We’re now about to move for the third time and we’re well into our fall term. The two of us both spent our summers going back and forth between Portland and Sisters trying to put some money in our pockets. Brit has now landed a job at Riverplace Athletic Club in downtown Portland and has taken on the role as Aquatic Manager and well as giving swim lessons. Jessie is scheming our government and getting away without paying taxes while consuming her spare time with nannying children she knows from Black Butte.

Football season will be coming to an end in another two weeks. We won one game. That’s better than people expected us to do I suppose which is a plus. As we transfer into Basketball season tonight we’re finding ourselves bundled up in our Uggs and scarves as the cold weather hits Portland and bitter wind blows the leaves off the trees. Good thing the boys have a fireplace as we’ll be inviting ourselves over on a regular basis once winter hits.

We hope all is well with all our friends and family. We’ve had our share of sickness. Jess spent the last couple weeks sleeping by the humidifier and popping the herbal supplements and Brittany is finishing up the last of her antibiotics as she is still recovering from Swine Flu and a near case of pneumonia. No worries though; both of us are well on our way to recovery! Hopefully we’ll find more times each week to keep you updated on our fast paced Portland adventures from now on. Wish our boys luck in their game tonight! GO VIKS!

...And Then Safeway Security Called Him a Cab

One of the fun things about living in Portland is famous people. While Sisters has had it's share of Dwight (from "The Office" for you who aren't quite "in tune") sightings at Sisters Coffee House, you still don't get the thrill of REAL famous. I'm talking about sports legends, pop stars, the people you see on the cover of Star or US Weekly on a regular basis. Now where is the best place to have encounters with these people you ask?
Safeway.
Yes, the card holder's dream, the store with the giant red and white S plastered almost as many places as Walmart sticks a smiley face. Last night following $1.50 a plate sushi hour at Blue Fin and minutes after watching Jessie's apalled face after tasting a green geletin-like ice cream "dessert" we made our way down the street to Safeway. In need of the obvious girl night necessity, Cammy, Jessie and I stood in the baking isle debating over which brownie mix to purchase when Jessie took a glance down past Betty Crocker and (of course) Safeway Select to.....
I followed her gaze down the isle and then quickly looked back to her, "Did you see...Gre...?"
Calmly she relpied, "Ya, it's him." I laughed and turned back to the wall of brownies. Cammy who had just caught on looked to us, "Who'd you see?" She asked. "Greg Oden." I offered, occupied with a Double Fudge and Double Chocolate Chunk pro and con list. Star stunned Cammy started to race in the direction the Portland Trail Blazer star had gone, calling back begging us to come talk to him with her. While Jess continued her specialty of finding the best brownie deals I ran after Cammy for moral support. Past the frozen food and around the corner to the milk and eggs we came sprinting right into Oden. We did the casual "cool" walk by pretending not to notice, but it wasn't enough... She NEEDED a picture. There was no way she could pass this moment up, it might never come again! So we turned back and Cammy walked right up between his two friends (that had to be a good three feet shorter than him) and asked nervously to take a picture with him. There standing awkardly in between the Jello and milk I snapped the picture that now will be all over facebook and myspace for the rest of our lives. After offering him a "Good luck against the Lakers," we paid for our brownies and walked towards the exit. Behind us people were starting to flock to isle we had just left. As we walked by four uniformed men on our way out we heard them talking, "Ya we need to get him out of here..." "And ask those people to back off..." "He just got here..." "Just shopping..." And then, apparently not aware of his social standing, Safeway security called Greg Oden a cab.

Even in Portland it's just like home...

Welcome!

Hi Everyone! Welcome to our blog! We were inspired to create one after a speaker came to Bryttni's blogging class the other day as a good way for friends and family to keep up to date on our latest adventures. Anyway, this speaker goes by the name of Peter Fogtdal. Originally from Denmark he is here on a five year visa going on book tours and teaching a class at PSU this coming term. This blunt, fifty something year old, Danish man is our newest fascination. His slightly satirical blog can be found on the right hand column of ours. If you want a good laugh, check out the entry on Ikea! We've huddled around the computer screen for the last two days soaking up his writing. Jessie has fallen in love with his blog which of course led up to us both registering for his upcoming class this spring.
With the necessary parts of our new apartment furnished, beds in place, registered for classes and having applied for jobs, things are starting to fall into place. Everyday is something new and exciting to look forward to.
We're glad you stopped by to check us out and invite you to keep coming by and stay udated on this new step in our lives. We'll be updating at least once a week, or as much as our schedule allows with Bryttni working out religiously and Jessie's 5AM rowing practice. We love and miss you all! Adios!
